The Rivers State Commissioner of Police, Tunde Ogusakin, yesterday,
paraded 11 armed robbers and two kidnappers arrested in Port Harcourt, the
state capital, in different operations.

Ogusakin told journalists at the state command, along Moscow Road, that a gang of armed robbers opened fire on a police patrol team, at 1.45pm, on Friday, February 14, at Ogunabali Area, by St. Patrick Hospital.

Compol Tunde Ogunsakin in his speech said a special team parading on Valentines day saw a bandit of robbers in shooting; this prompted the police to immediately engage them in an exchange of gun fire that lasted for 33minutes. The gang was, however, overwhelmed by the superior fire power of our men who displayed their resilience in the course of the gun exchange.

The gang which was overpowered by the police later ran from the scene leaving behind a grey-coloured Toyota Highlander Jeep, with registration number LSR 825 AP. One Chinoso Ihesinor was arrested while the sum of One Million Naira (N1, 000,000) was recovered from him.

In a separate move, another gang of robbers that was led by one Lawal Ibrahim, a notorious robber who was fingered in a robbery incidence along Shell Quarters in September, 2013 who was on bail by a court of law was also arrested along Umokoro, Rivers State.

Ogunsakin also disclosed that on Monday, February 17, the operatives of the command acting on a piece of intelligence, arrested a suspected kidnapper, David Francis, at Fidelity Bank, along Trans Amadi Road, while trying to withdraw a ransom meant to augment the ransom fee for the release of a victim that was recently kidnapped at Akwa Ibom State.

Francis later led the operatives from the Rivers State Police Command, to the hide-out of his accomplice, Edwin Ekpeyoung, who was arrested after some resistance by armed men from the Special Anti-Robbery Squad, SARS.

The Commissioner of Police emphasized that he will continue to make intelligence-led policing the cardinal point of police operation in Rivers State, adding that "I intend to continue with an aggressive onslaught in the state against criminals until the crime situation is brought to near zero level. The Commissioner of Police advice the criminal to desist or face the wrath of the law.

NIGERIA IN A STATE OF EMERGENCIES: THE AGONY OF BEING A NIGERIAN CITIZEN

My heart bled not for lack of want but with the news of BOKO-HARAM massacre on the innocent students at the Federal Govt College Yobe. From January to February 2014, over 400 people had been massacred and murdered either in broad daylight or in their sleep by the dreaded and outlawed Boko-Haram. The sycophants at the helms of affairs of our security apparatus as always been full of rhetoric and statements not worthy of leaders.The irony of these situations is that it sends wrong signals to the international community of investors to which large budget had been dissipated in the name of image rebranding projects. In safety of lives and property as enshrined in the constitution of the federal republic of Nigeria as well as International Human Right charter is no more a guarantee for the citizen. That you have not been struck by Boko-Haram is through divine grace.

Not being immodest in my thought, I tried to ruminate on the many headlines about the Boko-haram activities that punctured my heart; I can’t but express my sympathy for the hapless people of the north who but have to take thine own destiny in their hands. I doubt if any of these headlines touches the heart of our leaders’ nay our so called administrators. Headlines such as these:

The never-ending questions I have got for Mr. President in the person of Goodluck Ebele Jonathan who I assume is the Commander in chief of the Armed Forces of the Federal Republic of Nigeria are:

1. Is Goodluck Ebele Jonathan still the Commander in Chief of the Fed Republic of Nigeria? If yes, why are we subjected to mind torture, pains and anguish of the Boko haram pogrom.

2. Is GEJ still the President of Nigeria? If yes, why do we have the highest level of impunity under its watch and instead we chase shadows in the name of fighting corruption.

3. Does the blood of innocent students and the downtrodden poor civilian populace of the north-east spilled by the book-haram a clear indication of “I DON’T GIVE A DAMN” attitude of Mr. President?

4. For how long are we going to be fed with the terrible news of the wanton destruction of lives and properties while our government looked away and continues in mediocrity?

5. Why is there so much fuss and jamboree preparation about the centenary celebration when the average citizens groan under poverty and insecurity?

6. What happens to the elephant budget spent on procuring a satellite, can the satellite not serve the purpose of monitoring the radar coverage of the geographical entity called Nigeria?

7. Who was responsible for the withdrawal of troops at the Federal Govt College Yobe before the pogrom?

8. Will GEJ ever get the kind of electoral support garnered during the 2011 general election,considering the faces of corruption in the presidents’ kitchen cabinet.

9. Are some people benefitting from the uprising in the north, if not why has the violence not been curtailed?

10. Why is the STATE OF EMERGENCY not declared in the Power, Oil, Education and other critical sector of the economy?

11. I believed the Presidents’ PHd should be subject to review, how would my President not able to make a public or national address without recourse to reading from the screen or prepared documents by Abati and other media cohorts, his national broadcast doesn’t move me a bit, he needs to go for a course on moving mountain with the power of public speaking.

THE SACRIFICIAL LAMB CALLED SANUSI LAMIDO SANUSI, THE 37^TH GOVERNOR OF THE FEDERAL REPUBLIC OF NIGERIA.

I read without an iota of surprise the suspension of the vociferous Central Bank Governor in the person of Sanusi Lamido Sanusi, who happens to be the second most popular personality after Goodluck Ebele Jonathan, the President of this contraption called Nigeria. From the findings I conducted independently and based on the various search engines scattered all over the media streams, it seems SANUSI LAMIDO SANUSI has been made more popular as a result of his confrontational approach to issues bordering Nigeria’s economy. As a CBN Governor, Sanusi’s position was more of a political benevolence than purely on merit, prior to Sanusi’s appointment as the Head of the helms of affairs at the CBN, there are have been various allegations and counter allegations as to the suitability of the Kano born prince to steer the wheel of leadership at the CBN. Meanwhile, being the 37^th Governor of the federal Republic Of Nigeria, Sanusi erred by forgetting so soon and easily that his mandate was never derived from the electorate who would have raised voices, mace, bows and arrows in his defense in unwarranted situations like this, apologies to the members of the Rivers state House of Assembly who threw every caution to the wind to ensure Gov Amaechi’s interest was adequately protected in the political logjam in the state.

Consequent upon his removal, the presidency, through a press release statement by the senior special assistant on media, Reuben Abati, alleged that the CBN Governor’s tenure has been characterized by various acts of financial recklessness and misconduct which are inconsistent with the administration’s of a Central bank. He was also alleged to have breached enabling laws, violate due process and mandate of the CBN. Perhaps, these and many more seems to be sanusi’s many sins against the Government that gave him the platform to exhibit the audacious banking prowess he has garnered over the course of his career.

However, his reigns as CBN Governor suddenly came to an end in unceremonious manner as witnessed in other sector of the Nigerian social-political clime. My argument is not whether Sanusi deserved to be quarantined for boldly criticizing the government of the day, but to critically examine the various infractions as postulated in the reports and memo sent to the President as well as the National Assembly for scientific analysis. If the report is anything to go by, there and then, many people in the Jonathan’s cabinet deserved to be marooned from this conglomeration called Nigeria because once the head is rotten the body becomes useless. It is high time we masses stand up for the truth instead of being parochial and allow our ethnic, religious, political affiliations and personal interest to becloud our judgments in matters which fundamentally threaten our raison d’être.

Conclusively, Sanusi should as a matter of fact pick his bits and pieces together and chose where he belong now to either save the masses and get heroic welcome by laying down the whole cards on the table for us to determine if Jonathan and his co travelers at ASO ROCK deserve another term. In every evolutional change of ideals, a sacrificial lamb must definitely be offered to appease the change agents, therefore we accept that Sanusi be the sacrificial lamb but we say NO to IMPUNITY by the power that be…………….Lekan Olanite
