With the
ongoing clampdown on judges for alleged corrupt practices, have we really demystified
the open and secret powers of the members of the judiciary?
Judges and
justices are court officials who make the final decision in every case that is
brought to a court of law. Depending on the jurisdiction, they can sit on the
bench (Justices) anywhere between six to eight years. Judges and justices must
retire at least by the age of 70.
Justices are
found on a state’s Appeals Court and Supreme Court. A higher court justice can
either be elected or appointed.
So, has the Supreme
Court Justices and Federal Judges been demystified by DSS and EFCC?
First, what
is demystification?
Demystification
is defined as the removal of mystery, suspense or confusion surrounding a
subject. When an unexplained and mysterious vision is suddenly explained, this
is an example of demystification.
These third arms
of many democratic system of government have enjoyed undeserved privileges by
virtue of their position in the society, unfortunately, the authority and power
vested with them has really been abused, misused and unjustly applied.
